SEARCHING is the overarching theme that brings together the works of 15 YoungArts alumni for PULSE Miami Beach, December 7-10, 2017, curated by Helen Toomer. Toomer states that the current political climate in the United States and abroad brings forward a poignant search for something. Searching for answers, for validation, for strength. Searching for sense and reason and self.
‘’I chose these artworks because they are bound together by a feeling of longing or searching for something.There’s a nostalgia in the portraits and landscapes, a feeling of contemplation. But layered in each subject, there is hope.’
The theme ties both into the work and with Miami Art Week itself, where thousands of people will be searching for the next “hot” artist or “exclusive” party, but are ultimately looking for meaningful connections.
